In the Land of Light, the light is in focus: Here there are more sunshine hours than in the rest of the country and a longer period with light evenings and nights during the summer. Over the years, many famous artists have also portrayed the light here and found it particularly attractive. When staying in the Land of Light, you'll almost certainly experience the interplay of the colours in the different landscapes and enjoy the different moods that result, thus enabling you to understand why the region is known as the Land of Light.

Out in the countryside When you arrive in the Land of Light, you'll notice the variety and diversity that characterise the region and its nature. From the west coast's magnificent dune landscapes to the inland areas between the coasts with fertile fields and landscapes and finally the tidal meadows of the east coast. To the north you'll find quite fantastic and unique natural landscapes at the mighty migrating dunes of Rubjerg Knude and Råbjerg Mile, the like of which cannot be found elsewhere in Europe – whilst the southern part of the region has beautiful green beech forests. In the middle of Kattegat is the island of Læsø, which, with its own distinctive character and unique nature, makes up a special and charming part of the Land of Light.

Art and cultureLying proudly in the landscape, the magnificent buildings - manor houses, castles, churches and monasteries - provide evidence of a pomp and splendour that can still be experienced both outdoors and indoors when on a visit. The museums in the area tell the story of an enterprising people in a sometimes harsh region and their struggle against nature, about life as farmers and fishermen, about all the famous artists that were inspired here and much, much more. Today culture is still in the rudest of health thanks to the many artists and craftsmen who display their creativity - for example sculptors, potters and glassblowers. Galleries and open workshops make it possible to follow their fascinating work at first hand.
